Ever wanted to know how much data your DPM servers are churning? Perhaps you are looking to implement DPM2DPM4DR and want to know how much data you'll be transferring across you WAN, or perhaps you are investigating what storage to purchase and need this data to make an informed assessment. Well this is how you calculate your churn, it's easy to do but a bit time consuming as it's not possible to export data from the Jobs view.
Open the DPM console, select the Monitoring pane and the Jobs tab.
Click Create Filter from the Actions pane.
Give your new filter a name and select a 24 hour...

Agents
If you wanted to refresh the information on an agent in DPM 2007, you had to refresh the information on all the agents which was a real pain if you had a high number of agents. This issue has now been addressed in DPM 2010, now you can select a single agent, hit the "Refresh information" button and it will just refresh the info for that one agent. No more will I have to sit and wait for the one agent I am interested in to refresh while all the other agents refresh first.
This is only a minor change but a very helpful improvement.

Operations Manager
PowerShell
I like using Operations Manager as a central console for DPM but there a few limitations of the current DPM management pack that prevent me from using Operations Manager as much as would like. The first thing I wanted was all my protection groups across all my DPM servers listed; here's how I did it.
Note: This will only work in Operations Manager 2007 R2 as it relies on the PowerShell discovery module.
First you will need to make sure you have the...

Operations Manager
PowerShell
Performing general administrative DPM tasks can be quite time consuming so why not get Operations Manager to do them for you. As with most new products coming out of Microsoft, any administrative task (and generally a lot more) can be scripted in PowerShell which can allow for tasks to be easily actioned remotely and much more efficiently. Taking this one step further though, you can create tasks and rules in Operations Manager that use these scripts to give you one central point of administration.
As an example I will use the PowerShell script written by Kapil Malhotra which...
