MS have released some XLSX storage calculators to aid DPM 2010 administrators in sizing the DPM storage pool. The calculators are based on the workload being protected. There are three different spreadsheets available, one for Exchange, one for SharePoint and one for Hyper-V. They are very simple to use and would encourage trying them out.
Here is a sample from the Exchange 2010 storage calculator.
All you need to do is the select from the drop down lists where the text is red and replace the numbers in blue with number relevant for your environment. This then auto populates the DPM Primary Requirements and DPM Configuration tabs in the workbook to give you protection group recommendations, sizing, backup windows, recovery windows, recovery point calculations and other useful information like the DPM server specification.
Remember these are draft storage calculators but they look pretty good to me.
